Marketplaces, web forms and email all cap how big an image can be, and "file too large" is a daily annoyance for sellers. Here's how to hit an exact size without wrecking the quality.
Compress to an exact file size
- Open the Image Compressor.
- Drop in your photo — JPG, PNG or WebP.
- Pick a target: under 100 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB.
- Download. The tool finds the highest quality that still fits under your target, and only shrinks the dimensions if it has to.
Which target should I pick?
- Under 100 KB — strict web forms and some marketplace thumbnails.
- Under 500 KB — WhatsApp, email attachments and most listing uploads.
- Under 1 MB — when a limit says "max 1 MB" but you still want maximum quality.
Keep it looking sharp
- Start from the largest original you have — you can always shrink, but you can't add detail back.
- Choose the largest target your limit allows; smaller files look softer.
- For photos JPG is smallest; pick WebP if you need transparency.
Everything runs in your browser, so your files are never uploaded.
